Scene in San Francisco

Location Library

Filmmakers have long taken advantage of the operatic vistas, scenic beauty and on-screen location recognition that San Francisco provides as a backdrop. Projects of every genre and a diversity of story-lines have been enhanced by the iconic skyline and dramatic bay views. The San Francisco Film Commission has a digital library of locations for you to browse.

San Francisco has inspired filmmakers for nearly a century with its picturesque locations. Our city's rich architectural history is preserved in diverse neighborhoods and landmark structures and our passion for preservation means scouts can find anything from turn-of-the-centruy saloons, to 1950's era corner shops, to a Julia Morgan ballroom or Timothy Pflueger theatre - and that's just scratching the surface. San Francisco's surroundings also provide a variety of waterfront settings, from the rugged industrial shipyards of Hunter's point to the Embarcadero piers reaching out to the East Bay and Treasure Island.

To give you an idea of the wonderful settings our neighborhoods have to offer we have made a limited number of local locations available from our digital library for you to browse. If you can't find what you're looking for here please give us a call so we can send you a personalized location package.

Please note that we always recommend hiring a local location scout. The location assistance we can provide is limited to what photos we have on file. Many local scouts have extensive digital libraries of both public and private properties. In addition, by hiring a local scout you will be giving your production an advocate to assist you with location agreements, permits, etc.
