If you get a filming notice or survey at your home or business

What to do if you see a notice or survey posted on your building.

Filming notices

You may get a notice about filming in your neighborhood 72 hours before a shoot, if the production will:

  • Use 4 or more parking spots for 4 or more hours
  • Close lanes or streets
  • Film simulated violence or explosions
  • Film between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Use drones

Access to your building

You will always have access to your private home during a shoot.

Traffic on your street may be stopped for safety reasons during filming. SFPD will be on-site if traffic needs to be stopped. Officers can help you get access to your home.

Contact the production’s location manager if you have questions about the production

The filming notice should contain their email or phone number. The location manager will be onsite during the shoot.

Contact Film SF if you have concerns about the shoot

Contact us at film@sfgov.org or 415-554-6241 to tell us your concerns about a current or future shoot in your neighborhood.

You can also contact us if you believe a film shoot is happening on your street and you didn’t get a notice about it.

Filming surveys

You may get a survey if a production plans on shooting on your street between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m if you are in a residential neighborhood. This survey is to get feedback from you, especially if you have concerns about the filming.

The survey will contain:

  • Details of the specific areas impacted
  • Hours of filming
  • Phone number and email address to collect your feedback

Answering the survey

You do not have to provide your contact information.

If you live in an apartment building, your building manager may complete the survey for you.
